OSIS
OSIS is an acronym which stands for One-Stop-Information Shop. It is a strategy conceptualized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), a sectoral council of the Department of Science and Technology(DOST) to institionalize regional data gathering, processing, synthesis, and integration of information in support to the implementation of the Integrated Research and Development Program (IRDP) at the regional level.
OSIS offers the following package of services in agriculture, forestry, and natural resources (AFNR) for the consortium member agencies, LGUs, farmers, business and industry, educational institutions, foundation, government agencies and other private sector:
- Information Management for R&D
- Human resource training courses
- Consultancy services
Magsasakang-Siyentista
Farmer-Scientist Bureau (FSB) or Magsasakang-Siyentista (MS) is composed of outstanding farmers who demonstrate successful application of S&T-based and indigenous technologies. These farmers are active participants, enables, facilitators or initiators of technology development and transfer process. Participating outstanding farmers are identified, evaluated and selected based on a set of criteria. As a farmer-to-farmer advisory service, FSB proves technical assistance to the local government units and farmer cooperatives or organizations.
The MS has the following functions:
- acts as resource person during trainings, seminars, field days, investment clinics, cross visits;
- provides technical assistance and hands-on training and shares experimental insights to on-farm visitors and other FSB trainees;
- devoted a certain portion of his/her farm as demonstration plot for his/her own on-farm trials;
- tests/applies technological information learned from the seminars and cross-visits attended; and
- influences other farmers in adopting his outstanding farm practices by sharing information, experiences, resources and ideas.
